I'm proud to be an American!

We've been in Europe for about 2 months. Switzerland, England, France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Italy. We'll be here until the sun goes down on November 8th. ;) While here in Europe, we've lived in  homes with major bug infestations, homes from 1714, and houses on the beach. Although the sites are AMAZING here, we still haven't gotten used to bagging our own groceries, putting on gloves when picking out produce, not having root beer, and a whole bunch of other things. Don't get me wrong - our trip has been wonderful. But I do miss the luxuries of our own home, and country.

Everyone pictures France as the 'most romantic country on earth.'  The language may a romantic type, classical music inspired by the French Revolution may be romantic, but the country itself is not the stereo type.

Boarding the Ferry while in Paris, we all smelled something nasty. Quickly forgetting what it was, we asked a local to direct us in the way of the restrooms. Well, apparently there are only so many restrooms, and the ones they do have, charge 1 Euro per person. Remember that smell I told you about? Yup, urine. ALL over the steps, and the little ally ways. People either can't hold in enough to walk to a bathroom 2 miles away, or don't have money to pay 1  Euro. It's crazy what's happening in these countries.

I've also seen that Europe has a different sense of cleanliness than America - at least Utah does. Occasionally you'll walk into a house with a weird smell or freaky long carpet, but in Europe almost every house has spiders. SPIDERS! They are my absolute horror.
Spider Count:
House in Hatfield, England: 423 spiders in 3 weeks. I saw three spiders that were about the size of the circumference of the top of a soda can, running on the floor. But the most common were cellar spiders. They have a body about a quarter size of the nail of your pinky, but have legs about an inch long. We emailed the host, complaining about our issue. They didn't believe us. We had to take pictures of all the spiders we saw, then email them to this guy.  Their response was that they'd come and vacuum every two days.  Well, the real spider problem was that they were breeding in the walls. We didn't solve the issue, until the day we left.

But seriously - France was amazing. It just isn't what a lot of people think. They don't ware scarfs, striped striped shirts, those those hats. They do, however, have incredible bread.

The Eiffel Tower was amazing too. We climbed to the top of the thing - exhausting. Especially for one that is not a great stair-sprinter. It was late, so we had to hurry. The top was way worth it though!
